Check the BD website and get the egt probe and boost lines for your unit. I can install them for you. Egt is exhaust gas temp. On a diesel it's important to watch this when any tuner is installed on these motors since they tend to be a little warm on factory software. BD tends to run lots of timing which is both good and bad. Timing keeps the heat in the cylinder longer so more power but , to much heat for to long will melt piston crowns and make hot spots that will ignite fuel sooner then the slippery slope to a blown motor load the engine going up a grade for to long and temps can creep to eye popping temps in stock trim then and tuner power levels. Anyway your best bet is to get with BD , get the probes and I can show how to safely set it up and what to watch. I love tinkering with these trucks.
I will say that there is alot of people that say the stock air intake is not the limiting factor on diesel running less than 500 HP. Also the Ford stock system filters the air down to 1 micron which K & N does not.
Save the Air intake money and install the EGT, EOT and ECT at a minimum. If you have a 4" sttaight exhast already and do not do a ton of heavy towing, go with the EOT and ECT gauges. If the truck is no longer under warranty, these are a must!!
I am a devout proponent of putting an EGR on before doing anything else!
Turbo life alone is far to precious to shorten running 1,400 degrees after a couple aggressive "pulls" on 98.
The F-550 with 7.3 we built up ended up with 2 add on OD's and 100hp chip. We pumped the exhaust to 4 inch from turbo to exhaust brake. From there it was 5 inch tee (homebuilt for angle to hop over driveline) and 5 inch stacks with turn out tips aimed to pull heat while coasting to cool turbo to stay at 900-1100 while pulling 30K# to speed on the interstate. One OD was a splitter which helped.
Without the EGR gauge we would have been easily getting to 1,400* accelerating. The truck owner wanted to go to cooling mode at no more than 1,100*.
"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"
Reviews online are not very good. It requires an inline fuse so get it after ordering and before you get it.

i bought a bully dog 40410 for a 2009 GMC 2500 gas. When pulling up a hill with load start blowing black smoke with cylinder misfire fire. Tech support had me do several things to fix the problem. Still did the thing, after 3 time of my truck smoking like a diesel and having to pull off the hi-way, i am done. The unit is 3 months old and cannot get a refund. Bully dog told me to sell it on Ebay so someone else can have the same problem. I am very unhappy with this company and feel like this is a injustice. I would not buy anything from a company that wont stand behind their product.

the 40410 is a gas tuner and can't be compared to a diesel. I had a 40410 in a gas 2500 and have had diesel in several different models as well. In a gas vehicle you have to follow the directions exactly. The 410 won't work for crap in performance mode unless you've upgraded the exhaust, intake and use premium fuel only. Just about all gas tuners will tell you to expect detonation and possible engine damage unless you do all the upgrades.
I thought I would update everyone on the difference in my truck since I installed the tuner.
The fuel use gauge in the console of the truck never got above 14.2 MPG previously. That is not the real number, because the oversized tires I have on the truck increases the distance traveled. I would say there is approximately 8% difference in the speedometer and actual. That equates to actual MPG of 15.3 (roughly) previously.
Since then, the console has reached 15.2 MPG rating, which equates to 16.4 MPG rating with the fudge factor of 8%.
I used to use half a tank of fuel when I went to Evergreen, AL to go hunting. Now, I am making the trip and only use 3/8 of tank. That is a big savings considering I have about 36 gallon tank.......... and the truck has sooooo much more acceleration than before.
