Last night set up was perfect leaving for the water at midnight. The tide had just started to come in and gigged a 19 incher right off the bat A little further had a nice fish swim out of the deep and settle down in my light. Never had that happen before??? Then on the next point gigged the first doormat and went about 20 feet and stuck the other one. I'm talking to myself now and wondering what's up with the way things have been. Finished up with 10 quality fish with the smallest at 14 inches.
Used my new choppedliver gigg and it worked awesome. The larger fish I just aimed for the middle and held on and the gigg did it's job. Like to have never got the fish off, finally had to stand on it and pull.
If you notice the 22.75 only has one eye, other one is missing.. The larger fish had been gigged before and was healed over. Two handicapped fish that made it that far, man they're tough. These won't hold up in the contest as the best months are coming. Last Fall , although don't get me wrong respectable in my book there were alot larger fish gigged. I couldn't tell you how many hand size fish I saw, it was incredible. Sold on my new gigg and was skeptical at first.Never had a problem like I did last night getting fish off. Even slammed a flounder shaped piece of concrete and didn't even dull the point. Mopbucket you need to hit J Bayou , North Shore, thats all I've got to say about that.Fish were long, they just didn't have the weight, they do in the Fall. When the tide rolled in the water cleared very quickly and was mirror smooth. Was like looking into an aquarium.
