Well the weather was terrible, hot, windy and rainy!! The deer didn’t seem to mind though. Two really nice bucks were killed on my lease this weekend. The first was a nice eight point that my buddy Jarred killed. He was set up over looking a long stretch of road that runs through the middle of a young pine plantation. He told me he had put out scent at different places along the road hoping to lure something out of the pines. He also had just finished a sequence of rattling and grunting when a doe stepped out on the road. He texted me to let me know what he was seeing. I sent him a text back saying maybe a buck will be following her. I no sooner had pushed the send button when I heard the shot. Soon after he sent a text saying “you were right”. He said that he is not sure if the buck responded the scent, the grunts and rattling or was just following the doe. He said the buck came out on the road about thirty yards from the doe. Well, whatever brought him out the end result is a dead deer. Jarred has hunted a total of three times this year and killed deer every time. He killed an eight point and doe on his first hunt. Then an eight point on each of the following two hunts. All of the bucks have been quality bucks two of the three will be mounted.
The second eight point killed this weekend was killed by my buddy Bubba. He was sitting in ladder stand overlooking a bush hogged trail between a transition from hardwoods on the left and pines on the right. He said he had no warning just happened to be looking at the right place at the right time. He said the buck simply walked across the trail so he gave him a grunt to stop him and made a perfect behind the shoulder shot.
This deer was killed by a friend of mine, Pat Howell. He hunts up the road not far from my camp. This is such an awesome nine point I thought I would share the photo. I don’t have the details on how he was killed, he just sent me the photo on my phone.
