I'm afraid those things would be mighty hard to fish with. You'd have to fish them all the way until you could lift them out of the water then make several false casts to get them back out.
I much prefer "Pusher" type flies like the Silicone Mullet or the Ball Head Mother. They move a lot of water and you can fish them deep or as "Wakers." The bulge in the water is a mighty fish attractor. You can lift them off with a fast pull or roll cast and shoot them back out with minimum lost motion. False casts are a waste of time, motion and energy.
I've tried spoon flies but I hate casting them because, with my lack of skill, I never know where they are going to land.
Fishing with a spoon fly is a frustrating, learned experience. Once you've gotten the hang of it, you'll swear by them. In the interim learning process, you'll swear at them.
I build a 'Crack' fly that I stole from the guys on a Texas Board. It is deadly on trout and redfish, so have gotten away from the spoon fly.
I think that the spoon flies in question were made using duct tape. To each his, or her, own.
